The Rundown

While the software have several similar features, the main distinctions between HIA ERP & Accounting and M3 Accounting Core are that HIA is built for the cloud with true-cloud architecture, and M3 is adapted for the cloud using Citrix. HIA offers an all-in-one back office platform with multiple add-on modules, and M3 is accounting specific. Top 5 Differentiators

Differentiator #1:

HIA is True-Cloud

HIA is a true-cloud system designed for speed and tight integrations. That means that both the system and reports run quickly, there is a 99.98% Uptime, and HIA has an Open API for tight integrations with 250+ partners.

Also, HIA is set up for Unlimited Users, Unlimited Properties, and does NOT charge any per-user fees, so hotel companies can have as many team members in the system as they like.

M3 Accounting Core

M3 Accounting Core is an older software that connects to the cloud through Citrix. This can cause issues – such as slower system processing speeds and challenges with users forgetting passwords and not being able to reset their own passwords.

Integrations can also be more challenging as an older system can limit options. Also the per-user fees can limit the number of people with access to the system.

Differentiator #2:

HIA Offers a Modern User Interface

As an advanced ERP & Accounting software, HIA has a fresh, user-friendly design so users can navigate the system with ease and speed. A few of these user-friendly features include:

M3 Accounting Core

The system has an older user interface design which can slow down work, such as when there are small windows and extra steps. For example, every time a Trial Balance is run it comes up in an small window which cannot be worked in, so users have to expand the window each time to work in the report, which can add up if you are in trial balances all day long.

Also not being able to configure Exports to Excel means that any exported statements need to be manually edited to remove headers, footers, and page breaks.

There is also some lack of flexibility around importing multiple file types to the Daily Report, and report restrictions. For example, users are limited to only viewing one Daily Report date at a time. This can cause properties to get far behind on reporting because of one out-of-balance date while a GM waits for the accounting team to correct the out-of-balance.

Differentiator #3:

HIA Offers Fast Processing Speed

The processing speed is fast throughout HIA’s true-cloud system – whether in running reports, reclassifying, or general system speed.

Reports populate quickly and there is no lag time between modules when moving around the system.  Shortcuts like the Favorites tab give users a way to pull up reports directly without going into any of the modules.

M3 Accounting Core

In M3 Accounting Core a common user complaint is that reports take a long time to calculate and process. Processes with numerous steps can also create delays like the in-depth process to modify report parameters.

In terms of overall system speed, users note the lag time in moving between modules before the modules redraw, especially between the A/P and G/L modules.

Differentiator #4:

HIA Edges Out in Functionality

HIA’s advanced technology includes features like Dashboards and flash reports for at-a-glance insights into property and portfolio KPIs in a graphic layout.

Our Management Company Functionality enables both corporate and property books to be done in the same system. This includes a full Accounts Receivable module ideal for management company billing and advanced Intercompany functionality for easily splitting invoices across multiple hotels or the entire portfolio, with or without an invoice.

Lastly, HIA’s award winning Mobile App gives users full role-based system access on the go. Users enjoy the mobile notifications for expense approval workflows, and checking in on real-time reporting and KPIs.

M3 Accounting Core

M3 Accounting Core does not offer Dashboards in their accounting software, only in their separate business intelligence product.

The system only supports hotel property financials, so corporate books need to be done in another software which can create extra work. The Accounts Receivable and Intercompany functionality are more limited, which can cause challenges when trying to split transactions across multiple properties/the portfolio.

While M3 has a Mobile App, it is view-only without capability to work within the app.

Differentiator #5:

Live Bank Connectivity in HIA

HIA’s BankConnect module pulls in data from regional and national banks across the portfolio so that your team does not need to log into separate banks to get cash balances. It is a one time setup process and then can simply be refreshed for live balances.

In HIA’s streamlined Bank Reconciliation, bank transactions can be scheduled to be pulled in automatically, so no export/import process is required. No cash management entry is required either as Journal Entries flow directly into cash management. The “Smart Match” filters allow for fast processing, and reconciliation is based on the transaction date, not post period, providing a more accurate picture of cash on hand and faster reconciliation.

M3 Accounting Core

M3 Accounting Core has bank reconciliation, but it is more limited and lacking in automations. M3 does not have the ability to bring in real-time bank balances.
